BHM Wordangle Puzzle-09

Are you looking for teacher resources to support Black History Month? Here is a BHM word angle puzzle to get kids engaged with a fun and interactive brain teaser! Word angle puzzles are like most word searches except that there is one right hand turn in most letter paths, and some letter paths will cross. Puzzle suits students in grade 5-8 home school and classroom environments. There are no letter hints, adding to the challenge! Available in printable and Google Apps™ versions.

Puzzles in the classroom are great for:
-early finishers
-morning language activities
-formative assessments
-helping to improve working memory skills
-use in all learning environments: virtual learning, hybrid and in-person classrooms, homeschooling, tutoring, differentiated and independent classrooms

Other ways to use puzzles in the classroom:
- find smaller words within a larger word (e.g. use the word, unconstitutional. How many smaller words can be found in this one word?) (supports visual acuity, compare/contrast known words with what letters are available)
- use puzzle to introduce Black History Month (activates prior knowledge)
- vocabulary list as writing prompts for play, report and/or debate writing (supports differentiated instruction)
- organize the words into part of speech, were possible (requires organizational skills, supports visual acuity)
- have students create their own word search puzzles using any number of blank word search grids found here: blank word search (engages creativity)
