Are you looking for fun and interactive, but challenging, educator resources to support grades 5-8 Black History Month programming? Here is a BHM word maze puzzle to support student learning while activating multiple problem solving strategies! To solve the puzzle, students need to locate 20 word clues hidden in a word search grid, while creating a maze like path at the same time! The additional challenge here is that the letter paths cross! Here are a few words included in this puzzle: differences, abolish, threatened, sit-ins, bias. Available as puzzle to print and Google Slides™ version.

To complete the printable version:
1. download the puzzle to print
2. review the list of words in the word bank
3. locate the start bubble (circled letter is the first letter of the first word)
4. trace the word clue's letter path (letters travel in all 8 directions: vertically, horizontally and diagonally)
5.at the end of the word clue locate the first letter of the next word and trace its letter path
6. repeat step 5 until all 20 word clues are found, completing the maze within the grid

To complete the Google Slides™ version:
1. use the link to copy the file to the computer
2. review the list of words
3. locate the start bubble (circled letter is the first letter of the first word)
4. use the line tool (or the shapes tool with color set to transparent) to trace the word's letter path (letters travel in all 8 directions: vertically, horizontally and diagonally)
5. at the end of the word clue locate the first letter of the next word and trace its letter path using the line tool (or the shapes tool with color set to transparent)
6. repeat step 5 until all 20 word clues are found, completing the maze within the grid
