Are you looking for educator lesson plan activities and resources for Black History Month? This BHM scrambled letters word maze puzzle activates students' critical thinking skills, supports vocabulary building and helps consolidate spelling. Suitable for kids grades 5-8. Available in both PDF and Google Apps versions, word maze puzzle and answer included with the file. Letter paths do NOT cross! To complete the printable version:
1. download the puzzle to print
2. unjumble the letters for each word to reveal the correct spelling and then record the correct spelling, as required
3. review the list of words in the word bank
4. locate the start bubble (circled letter is the first letter of the first word)
5. trace the word clue's letter path (letters travel vertically, horizontally)
6. at the end of the word clue locate the first letter of the next word and trace its letter path
7. repeat step 6 until all 18 word clues are found, completing the maze within the grid

1. use the link to copy the file to the computer

Choice Board Activity Ideas
l. ACTIVATE student curiosity by encouraging kids to ask WHAT IF questions. For example: What if there was no such thing as freedom? What might that look like today? Explain your thinking.
2. FOSTER kids' creativity by getting them to construct a multi-media presentation using vocabulary from the word list, or other Black History Month vocabulary
3. ENGAGE critical thinking skills by having kids create their own set of puzzles: crossword puzzles, scrambled letters puzzles, or word searches. Link to blank grids is below.
